'"As One" is everything that we hope for in contemporary opera: topical, poignant, daring, and beautifully written.'
New York Classical Review
Headlining LFAM 2021 is As One, a chamber opera for two voices and string quartet, with music and concept by Laura Kaminsky, libretto by Kimberly Reed and Mark Campbell, and film by Ms Reed. In fifteen
songs written with empathy and humour, this critically-acclaimed work traces the experiences of its transgender protagonist —from her youth in a small town to her college years and finally while travelling alone to
a different country where she realizes some truths about herself.
This production, which marks the UK premiere of the opera, stars Arlene Rolph and Simon Wallfisch, and is helmed by conductor Odaline de la Martínez and stage director Benjamin Davis. According to OPERA America, As One is the most produced contemporary opera in the
US with nearly 50 productions since its premiere.
