LFAM 2021
Welcome!
The Mornington Trust, in Association with Lontano Trust and Musical Elements, is proud to present the 8th biennial London Festival of American Music, taking place between September 13-18th 2021 at The Warehouse.
The week-long Festival, under the Artistic Direction of pioneering Cuban-American conductor-composer Odaline de la Martínez, promotes the work of outstanding American composers who are well-known in the States but little-known to UK audiences, with many of the performances World and/or UK Premieres. Continuing the Festival's long-standing commitment to equality, over half the composers featured are women, and three quarters come from an ethnic minority background.
Diversity in every sense of the word is the main theme in LFAM 2021, headlined by three UK premiere performances of Kaminsky-Campbell-Reed's 2014 critically-acclaimed chamber opera, As One, in which two voices – Hannah After and Hannah Before – share the part of a sole transgender protagonist. The Festival also features the Black Renaissance of Harlem and Chicago with pianist Samantha Ege; Black culture in songs by the Harlem poet Langston Hughes, with mezzo soprano Simone Ibbett-Brown; a focus on the composer Daniel Asia with the Lin-Linder Duo; and works by Augusta Read Thomas and Fred Lerdahl performed by Lontano Ensemble.
We look forward to seeing you there!
